What are you doing?

Ask yourself some simple questions as you plan your workout
today. Are you making them better or are you just making them tired? Are you being
productive or are you just keeping them busy? Is what you are doing focused on
need to do activities that reflect the demands of the sport and the needs of
the individual athletes? How does today’s training session relate to yesterdays
training and how does it lead to tomorrow?

  1. Vern,
Excellent thoughts. I think too often, especially in the endurance world, we tend to get into the “crap against a wall” mentality and start making athletes more tired than we are better. As the distance running world becomes more and more accepting of improving movement prowess and not just hammering metabolism, I think our biggest gains will be figuring out as coaches when we need to do what.
