GAIN Swim Dryland training

Chris coaching

Built season by season for serious swim programs.

Most clubs treat dryland as conditioning — make them tired, send them to the pool. The result is plateaued athletes, recurring shoulder injuries, and seniors who leave the program with their best swims behind them.

GAIN Swim builds complete athletes from the ground up, so the water work has somewhere to land. Athletic development on land has been part of swimming for decades; a formalised version of it has become the linchpin of the most successful programs in the sport.

Three services. One standard of excellence. All application-only.

Hard work is the floor. Technique is the ceiling.

Application-only. Embedded. Built season by season.

Total Team is the highest-touch service GAIN Swim offers. Chris Webb works directly with a small number of clubs each season to integrate dryland and swimming as one season-long plan — built on the 8-to-18 athlete development model, six training phases (Foundation → Basic Strength → Max Strength → Strength Endurance → Power Endurance → Hybrid → Taper), and 3-week super-compensation cycles timed to the meet that matters.

This is not bodybuilding. It is not generic strength and conditioning. It is dryland built for the demands of swimming, by working coaches who have been on the deck for decades.

What your first year includes

• A detailed dryland season plan for every group in the club

• Phase-divided plans matched to each group’s swimming goals

• Daily dryland and warm-up-to-swim plans for every session of the week

• Monthly Zoom check-ins with the coaching staff to monitor progress and troubleshoot

• Mid-season meet and taper planning meeting

• End-of-season evaluation

• Business-hours access to the GAIN Swim Director

• Access to the GAIN head coaches’ email list for peer support

• A direct line to current and past Total Team coaches for problem-solving

• Reduced clinic fees for three staff members at the Annual Clinic

• Access to the GAIN Invitational swimming meet in Sarasota, FL

The question we ask is rarely “what can you add?” It is “what are you willing to give up?” Integration takes time. We work with a small number of programs each season for that reason.

Reps need roots.

A clear-eyed audit. An actionable plan.

It is hard to look in the mirror and see what you don’t like. Gap Analysis is the service for clubs that aren’t ready to integrate Total Team yet, but want a practical, documented picture of where they are and where they are trying to go.

The five-step structure

1. Identify the current state. Document the processes, systems, and dryland practices already in place.

2. Identify the desired state. A coach-facing questionnaire surfaces the goals and outcomes the club is reaching for.

3. Compare the two. Current state and desired state side by side. The gaps become visible.

4. Identify root causes. A root-cause analysis surfaces the underlying reasons the gaps exist — not just the symptoms.

5. Build the action plan. Specific recommendations for changes to processes, systems, or practices, with timelines and ownership.

No one workout can make an athlete, but one workout can break an athlete.

Bi-weekly. One-on-one. Inside a working system.

“But can you coach?” Well-packaged experts emerge daily on social media. Coach Mentorship is the service for the head coach or assistant who wants something different — direct access to working practitioners with more than 50 years of combined championship coaching across swimming, athletics, basketball, soccer, and the other sports the GAIN methodology was built on.

How the mentorship is structured

Clear standards. Each mentorship is shaped around the standards and outcomes of the coach being mentored.

Personalised attention. Sessions account for the coach’s individual development arc, strengths, and gaps.

Working faculty. Mentors are practitioners on the deck — not lecturers reading slides.

Bi-weekly sessions. Scheduled meetings to track progress, surface challenges, and work through solutions.

Structured curriculum. A step-by-step development arc, so the coach always knows where they are in the build.

Inside the community. Mentorship comes with access to the wider GAIN Swim coaching community, hosted at gainswim.mn.co.

You cannot endure a quality you do not yet possess.
