This is Seth Godin's post today. Very thought provoking. Well worth reading. http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2010/04/the-coming-meltdown-in-higher-education-as-seen-by-a-marketer.html

Thought provoking indeed. Having gotten a PhD with the intent to become a professor, Seth Godin’s post almost made me soil my pants …
Enlightening. I’m thinking the same could be said of the youth sports culture, the path to the scholarship, AAU, Club sports, showcase tournaments etc. Clearly time for new thinking on the part of players, parents, coaches and administrators.

Vern,
This is spot on, thanks for sharing. There is little question that, while the education (or piece of paper) received from a university does have value, the amount of knowledge gained from the experience was very much average.
The best thing that has ever happened to me is that my parents encouraged curiosity and valued a multi-modal exposure to multiple ideas and view points and supported my infovoria. The qualities developed from their parenting are beyond compare.
