This flu bug that is going around is
very nasty. I got sick on February 26 and was in bed for four days including a
visit to the hospital ER because of difficulty breathing. Just been spending
time trying to get back on my feet. Given the medication and overall feeling of
fatigue I did not feel up to any post posts that might be close to coherent. I
hope that I will get back into it with this post. Based on my visit to the ER I
am convinced more than ever that our health care system is broken beyond
repair. The doctors and nurses just did seem to get it. As coaches and teachers
we are trained to listen. They were incapable of listening to my symptoms. It
was obvious to me and my wife that they just ran off a script or an algorithm.
I was having trouble breathing and after one particular violent coughing bout I
was really struggling so my wife went to the nurse. Instead of coming to check
me out the nurse pointed to the monitor and told my wife that according to the monitor
my breathing was OK. There is something wrong with this picture. The moral of
this story is that if you value your health and well being stay out of the ER.

Yeah- Welcome back Vern! I know the feeling. A few years ago I got mis-classified by an MD as an epileptic, got put on psychoactive meds, got my drivers liscense taken away, the whole bit. Took $$$ to correct it, fall out still goes on.

Vern-
Glad you made it out alive, and I look forward to you getting back up to speed. I can relate as well…my one and only surgery (jaw) 5 years ago resulted in a LPN on duty late at night asking ME (with swollen face and groggy 6 hours post-op) why the bells were ringing on the HR/BP monitor. Gulp…I had visions of expiring in the middle of the night due to a bleedout, etc. and incompetents surrounding me. The system is in dire need of repair.

Vern,
Sorry to hear about your experience with the flu. Want to prevent getting it again? Do some we searches on flu and vitamin D–my educated guess is that you’re vitamin D levels are way low.
Cheers,

Glad to hear you are feeling healthier. Amazing how a lack of proper rest messes with the body’s immune system. Lots of F & V needed to get you fired up again. Next time you should get a fast boat to Cuba. You will receive better care there!

are you kidding about cuba…?We’ve got the best health care providers in the world. You need only ask a Canadian what socialized medicine is like. Or just look at Gov’t programs like Medicare-failed programs. The problem is too much government regulation and trial lawyers.
