These questions
were posted on the ACSM email newsletter. I would be interested in the response
of those of you who read this blog. I am going to reserve my comments for later
when I have had more time to think about and analyze what occurred.

I always admired the countries who get the best out of what they have-the under dogs. So, you have to hand it to the Aussies. It was great to watch that women’s hurdler & that diver win medals. You can tell neither expected it, they just love to compete. Even in the sports medicine realm-all this emphasis on manual therapy in the last 5 years had it’s genesis down under decades ago.

Joe P, I’m so proud that you admire our Australian athletes. Our nations history is full of great underdog stories. From a very young age our kids are encouraged to be competitive and to never give up. I think we also have a very strong attitude to ‘practical’ application of sports science, from our coaches.
However for me, the most significant performance by a team at the games was the British Cycling team. Their absolute dominance in all events was credit to the hard work that has gone into the program over the last ten years.
