  1. With the few teams I do work with we do test them to get numbers however we use these numbers as baselines to mark their improvement of lack of improvement. These numbers also tell me if I’m doing my job in making them successful. I never use “Norms” to show them where they rate versus those norms. I’ve had coaches us these numbers to determine the sequence of their subs during a game dependoing on the situation in basketball specifically. Most importantly the numbers are used to give the athlete feedback. The basline tells them whether or not they were as athletic as they thought they were. The later tests let them know whether or not they have improved as much as they think they have and can help to motivate them to work harder is need be.

  2. Heart rate is @ 188 beats per minute, blood lactate is @ 16.6 moles, after 23.5 seconds of maximal exercise, for a guy that weighs 330 pounds, all after a 11,568 meter warm-up that consisted of A-B-C drills … Still means nothing to me … ๐Ÿ™‚
    Ok, I’ll shut up now.

  3. The VB coach likes to test vertical jump so we take that measurement and mark a padded wall and have the athletes attempt to touch it as many times as they can in a 30 second period. Usually the VB players aren’t able to touch this measurement they just achieved on the vertimax. Why? becaus of the presence of the wall which simulates the presence of the net or a block. these are the kinds of numbers we use, not HR or mole. We try (hopefully successfully) to use movements that closely relate to the game as measurements.

  4. To me, those numbers and units mean nothing without context.
