Imagine – John Lennon

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

  1. I was never a big fan of this song. “no countries” & “no religions” always sounds like a bland homogeneous world I’m not sure I would like to live in. Jackson Browne’s “world in motion” is more my speed-
“Till the world I look out at this world and see…Is the world I know this world can be…You have a volunteer in me”.

  2. This from a man who kept an entire climate-controlled apartment JUST for his fur coats. Who called his manager a ‘fag Jew’. The song would be ok – although I find it too slushy – if it hadn’t been written by such a revolting hypocrite.

  4. Let it be takes you places. Maybe it took John to realize what was wrong and he only wanted to make it right.
I believe everyone should do community service!
Since (Bob Marley) has been mentioned on this blog. His words to war. No chains around my feet but Im no free.
    What life has taught me
I would like to share with
    Those who want to learn…
Until the philosophy which hold one race
    Superior and another inferior
Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned
Everywhere is war, me say war
That until there are no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man’s skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes
    Me say war
That until the basic human rights are equally
Guaranteed to all, without regard to race
    Dis a war
    That until that day
The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship
    Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion
To be persued, but never attained
    Now everywhere is war, war
And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique,
    South Africa sub-human bondage
    Have been toppled, utterly destroyed
Well, everywhere is war, me say war
War in the east, war in the west
War up north, war down south
    War, war, rumours of war
And until that day, the African continent
Will not know peace, we Africans will fight
We find it necessary and we know we shall win
As we are confident in the victory
Of good over evil, good over evil, good over evil
Good over evil, good over evil, good over evil

  5. Mr Picky here again – not Bob Marley’s words, but a speech by Emperor Selassie of Ethiopia, 1968, and turned into a Wailers song. Not by Bob Marley either – he just sang! It was credited to Alan Cole and Carlton Barrett (Wailers’ percussionist – don’t know who Cole is/was). Great sentiment, group effort, and message distorted over time.

  6. He just sang it? That like saying MJ just played basetball. It was made popular by Mr. Robbie Marley : ) Not pop culture or poptART
See it’s all a learning process fro me! I would of never known of this, if it wasnt for Bob Marleys passions’ and desire along with his art to send a message. And now “mR. Picky” has brought me that much closer. Thank you!
Here is the part of Haile Selassie’s speech that appears in “War:”
Last May, in Addis Ababa, I convened a meeting of Heads of African States and Governments. In three days, the thirty-two nations represented at that Conference demonstrated to the world that when the will and the determination exist, nations and peoples of diverse backgrounds can and will work together. In unity, to the achievement of common goals and the assurance of that equality and brotherhood which we desire. On the question of racial discrimination, the Addis Ababa Conference taught, to those who will learn, this further lesson:
That until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned; That until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man’s skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained; And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique and in South Africa in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; Until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and good-will; Until all Africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; Until that day, the African continent will not know peace. We Africans will fight, if necessary, and we know that we shall win, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil. – Haile Selassie I
In his speech to the U.N., Selassie reminded his listeners that these are only words; their value depends wholly on our will to observe and honour them and give them content and meaning.
To quote Bono of U2 (who was influenced by BMW, John Lennon)
    “every artist is a thief”
Its a puzzle that only the great ones can put together. IMO
