What can you say? Obvious
the time was unreal, but in many ways even more impressive was the margin of victory
0.62 seconds! I think the fact that all of his records have come in WC/OG is
also very impressive. No questionable wind, against the best. I am not given to
superlatives, but this guy is truly amazing. If he can maintain motivation and
stay healthy the shy is the limit. It was interesting to see that he laid it
all on the line in the 200m, there was nothing left in the tank on that one. It
is difficult to appreciate the concentration and neural fatigue that that
occurs to put together a series of races at that level. I also think that what is cool is that he is having fun.

  1. Vern…how does this guy do it? It makes times up in the 19:80’s – 19:70’s sound slow! I am also even more impressed by this than the 100 race. Trouble is when you are that good…..who is going to push him? He will only have himself. So he has to stay healthy, and train….how exactly do you train at this kind of level? Reaction time is good. His acceleration phase seems good. technique? What about the aura he now has? Will he psyche everyone out before the races even begin?
You are right….he IS having fun! I will be watching to see what amazing thing happens next.

  2. Vern-
Great thought about the mental/emotional aspect of Bolt’s achievements. While he may appear clownish, he is simply being authentic – (IMO a highly extroverted, intuitive, feeling, perceiver). But at the core, what he has done has required incredible concentration and emotional management. To run consecutive WR’s in championship races is ultimate in “getting it done” mental toughness. It has been informing and inspiring, and not just from a physical perspective.
